Iowa Joins Antitrust Investigation into Google’s Business Practices

The investigation will focus on "Google's potential monopolistic behavior" in search and advertising, according to Karl Racine, attorney general for the District of Columbia.

A separate group of states announced an investigation into Facebook's dominance on Friday. "If, however, the facts uncovered in this investigation lead us to other conclusions, then we must pursue appropriate follow-up actions to protect the free market".

"When there is no longer a free market or competition, this increases prices, even when something is marketed as free, and harms consumers", said Florida state attorney general Ashley Moody, a Republican.

Google expects the state authorities will ask the company about past similar investigations in the US and internationally, senior vice president of global affairs Kent Walker wrote in a blog post Friday.

The bipartisan probe from attorneys general included almost every state in the nation, except for California and Alabama.

When reached for comment, a Google spokesperson shared this blog post from Friday, when it admitted it had received requests for information from the Department of Justice and said it expects state attorneys general to ask more questions.
