A Game Of Thrones Targaryen Prequel Is In Development

Martin had hinted at the project for a while on his blog, imploring fans looking for answers on the unannounced prequels to read Fire & Blood for clues. Based on what I've read from Fire & Blood, this series could more closely resemble the Game of Thrones as we know it, with all the cleverly-written extended dialogue sections and soul-destroying tragedy, than what's been revealed about Bloodmoon.

As it stands, Jon Snow, whose birth name is Aegon Targaryen, is presumably the last living Targaryen after he killed Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) in the series finale.

Although the announcement is still essentially just a rumour - HBO have declined to comment - early rumblings suggest that Martin himself will have a bigger hand in production.

The prospective pilot hails from Martin and "Colony" co-creator and executive producer Ryan Condal, and would be set 300 years before the events of the original series, exploring the beginning of the end for House Targaryen. The author of "A Song of Ice and Fire" teased in May that there were five "GoT" shows in the works and "three of them are still moving forward nicely". What are they about? "I can not say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of FIRE & BLOOD and come up with your own theories", Martin said.

Fire & Blood, released in 2018, is a book by Martin that specifically explores the Targaryen lineage, including Aegon the Conqueror's creation of the Iron Throne, as well as the Dance of Dragons, a massive civil war, which is speculated to be a part of the new prequel. The Targaryens are plagued with madness throughout their bloodline, and share a close bond with dragons.

Game of Thrones ended its run with an Emmy record 32 nominations. And only one thing is for sure: "from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend ... it's not the story we think we know".

The rest of the cast for that other series includes Josh Whitehouse, Miranda Richardson, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
