O'Rourke: 'Hell, yes, we're going to take your AR-15

A spokesman told The Post that it violated the company's terms of service, which prohibit violent threats.

Less than an hour later, O'Rourke received what he described as a "death threat" from a fellow Texas politician. Clearly, you shouldn't own an AR-15-and neither should anyone else. Cain represents the state's 128th House district, located just outside of Houston, where the third Democratic primary debate was held.

Cain did not respond for multiple requests for comment about his message.

He continued: "When we see that being used against children, and in Odessa, I met the mother of a 15-year-old girl who was shot by an AR-15, and that mother watched her bleed to death over the course of an hour because so many other people were shot by that AR-15 in Odessa and Midland, there weren't enough ambulances to get to them in time, hell, yes, we're going to take your AR-15, your AK-47".

Such weapons have become a topic of debate nationally after recent mass shootings - but particularly in Texas, where 22 people were fatally shot at a Walmart store in O'Rourke's home city of El Paso on August 3 and eight people were fatally shot by a suspect's shooting spree in the Midland-Odessa area on August 31. He has specifically called for a mandatory government buyback of AR-15s, following Australia's gun control model. The tweet has since been taken down.

Cain shot back: "You're a child Robert Francis".

"This is a death threat, Representative", O'Rourke wrote to Cain.

Other Twitter users posted that they had reported it and two people on the O'Rourke campaign told CBS News they checked in about it with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

David Hogg, the former Parkland student and co-founder of March for Our Lives, argued that Cain's tweet proved the necessity of mandatory buybacks. When another critic told him they had saved a screenshot of his comments for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the lawmaker responded, "Cool bro". Cain tweeted "My AR is ready for you Robert Francis" shortly after O'Rourke gave his answer, using O'Rourke's given name.
