Fati's qualifies to represent his birth nation Guinea-Bissau, Portugal and Spain, but it seems the midfielder has chosen Spain after being called up to the U21 side to replace the injured Carles Perez.

Fati will now nearly certainly make his debut on Tuesday in a European Championship qualifying game against Montenegro and that will mean there is no chance of another country attempting to attract his services.

The 16-year old burst onto the scene this season, becoming Barcelona's youngest ever goalscorer in a 2-2 draw at Osasuna.

Spain's youth team sporting director Francisco Hernandez suggested Fati could be fast-tracked into the senior squad after opting to leave him out of the squad for the Under-17 World Cup in Brazil.

"I like that Ansu's with the U21s", Moreno said. "He's a player we can't ignore and that has broken barriers".

"When the moment comes we'll have to think about it carefully and decide which age group he should be competing with but all good players are welcome in the first team".

"I'm not ruling out the fact that he could play at Euro 2020".

According to reports in Spanish media, Ramos wants to be part of Spain's squad for the 2020 Olympic Games in addition to the European Championship.

Spain U-21 coach Luis de la Fuente was unable to call him up a week ago because the correct paperwork authorizing his call-up into the Spanish squad had not arrived.
