It is a day dedicated to amplifying the voices of the girl child and stand up for the rights.

"Today, I join millions of girls around the world to celebrate this year's global day of the girl-child, the theme for this year's celebration is 'GirlForce: Unscripted and Unstoppable", she tweeted.

International Day of the Girl or International Girl Child Day is marked every year on October 11 every year. Girls Not Brides mobilises over 1,300 member organisations in more than 100 countries to raise awareness of child marriage, and offers governments and civil society organisations strategies to end it.

The world celebrates achievements by, with and for girls since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

Being unable to get an education, being made to marry while you're still a child, or simply not being given as many chances at things as boys - these are just some of the difficulties girls can face.

As the economic cost and burden of child marriage and low educational attainment is increasingly recognised, some leaders and governments are implementing comprehensive plans to end child marriage and remove barriers to girls' education.

The child rights body also shared an inspiring video showcasing how girls are unstoppable. "More girls today are attending and completing school, fewer are getting married or becoming mothers while still children and more are gaining the skills they need to excel in the future world of work", said the UNFPA through a statement.

International Day of the Girl Child is being observed across the globe to create awareness and to recognize the rights of women and girls across the globe.

The theme of the year's celebration is "Girl Force: Unscripted and Unstoppable".
