With the English press reporting Manchester City's interest in signing the Benfica defender Ruben Dias this week, we could only wait for the reaction from the Portuguese press.

According to The Mirror, Pep Guardiola is considering a January move for the Portugal worldwide, following the decision not to bring in a replacement for Vincent Kompany in the summer.

And it appears that they are set to rival Manchester United in attempting to prise the highly-rated Dias from Portugal, according to The Mirror.

That has been exacerbated by a cruciate ligament injury suffered by Laporte that will keep him out until the new year, while John Stones has also been absent.

The report goes on to say that Koulibaly is Manchester United's top centre-half target after having held a long-term interest in the African star over the past three or four seasons.

The Portugal worldwide has been earmarked as a potential solution to the defensive issues plaguing Pep Guardiola's side so far this season in the absence of key men.

Dias made 85 appearances in his first two seasons at Benfica after graduating from the B team, and has earned 13 caps since making his senior global debut past year.
