Bhagavan "Doc" Antle, who appeared in a Netflix docuseries about exotic animal keepers that dominated during the early days of the pandemic, is accused of trafficking lion cubs between Virginia and SC, along with Keith Wilson, owner of a roadside zoo.

Bhagavan Antle, otherwise known as Doc, has been charged with animal trafficking in a case connected to lion cubs being moved between Virginia and SC. They described inadequate conditions and cruelty at the zoo after carrying out the 12-hour seizure, according to the attorney general's office.

Along with Antle, two of his daughters - Tawny Antle and Tilakam Watterson - were charged with misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals and violating the Endangered Species Act, the release said.

I have spent my entire professional life promoting the welfare and conservation of big cats and other species.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is a docu-series released by Netflix in March, it focuses mostly on Joseph Maldonado-Passage (also known as Joe Exotic) a magician/wildlife park owner who is now serving 22 years in prison for murder-for-hire and other wildlife violations. Joe Exotic is now serving 22 years in federal prison for a murder-for-hire plot against Carole Baskin, who herself has faced repeated questions over the disappeareance of her second husband, Don Lewis.

Antle could not immediately be reached for comment. Wilson was also handed wildlife trafficking charges by the Grand Jury of Frederick County following the attorney general's investigation.

Moreover, on charges of conspiracy, wildlife trafficking, animal cruelty and violating the Endangered Species Act, the owner of Wilson's Wild Animal Park in Winchester, Virginia, Keith Wilson, was also indicted by the same grand jury. I have deep respect and feelings for the animals in my care and would never harm them or abuse them in any way. I look forward to being able to answer these charges and to be able to clear my good name.

Wilson and Antle's two daughters are also facing charges relating to animal cruelty and wildlife trafficking.

Myrtle Beach Safari is disappointed that its facility was mentioned in the new Netflix series Tiger King.

Fellow Tiger King star Carole Baskin told The Sun that she believes Antle is "the real kingpin" of the big cat industry and not Joe Exotic. Investigation Discovery has greenlit a series focused on investigating Carole Baskin.
