The latest numbers showed there are 2,738 active cases in Alberta, up from 2,689 Wednesday.

Edmonton and Calgary continue to house the majority of hospitalizations in the province, as 89 of the 101 people in hospital due to COVID-19 are in Alberta's two major cities (49 in Edmonton and 40 in Calgary).

All told, Alberta's current active case count is just 283 lower than the peak we had seen in April, when we hit a high of 3,021 on April 30.

The province also reported its 288 death Thursday: a man in his 80s linked to the Millwoods Shepherd's Care Centre outbreak in Edmonton.

No changes were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, which now contains five active cases of COVID-19. The County of Stettler held steady with eight active cases of COVID-19.

One new COVID-19 related fatality was recorded in the Edmonton Zone over the past 24 hours.

The North Zone has increased by six, the Central Zone by six, and the South Zone by 14.
