Coronavirus survives on skin for 9 hrs, longer than flu virus

Blood group A and B glycosyltransferases also affect glycosylation in a large number of cell types, including epithelial cells in the respiratory tract and shed viral particles. It also found that people with blood group AB were the most likely to test positive for COVID-19 infection, followed by blood group B and then blood group A. These outcomes appear to show that notwithstanding people with Type O and Type A blood being equitably part among everyone, Type O is less powerless against the virus.

He continued: "COVID-19 IS NOT A SHORT-LIVED DISEASE!"

A study in June looking at patients in Italy and Spain found that blood type O had a 50 percent reduced risk of severe coronavirus infection (i.e. needing intubation or supplemental oxygen) compared to patients with other blood types. No associations were found between non-O blood groups and comorbidities that might explain infection rate differences.

Both new observations came out Wednesday in the journal Blood Advances. 7,422 of those tests returned positive, and of those people, 38% had Type O blood and 44% had Type A blood.

One observed the 95 critically sick COVID-19 patients at hospitals in Vancouver, Canada, from February to April.

Your blood group depends on the presence or absence of proteins called A and B antigens on the surface of RBCs, a genetic trait inherited from your parents.

A preprint study published in March this year suggested that people with blood type A have a higher risk of acquiring Covid-19 compared with non-A blood groups, while another study published in June found that blood type O seemed to be more resistant against Covid-19 infection.

Dr Soni said the fact that mortality rates for people with stage 5 "end-stage kidney failure" - denoting they would already have been on out-patient dialysis - was similar to people with earlier stage disease and those with acute kidney injury brought on by the virus was encouraging. Which shares its 80% genetic code with the new coronavirus.

"If one is blood group A, you don't need to start panicking". I don't think this supersedes other risk factors of severity like age and co-morbities and so forth. Although blood group frequencies and susceptibility for SARS-CoV-2 can vary substantially among ethnic groups, Denmark is a relatively ethnically homogenous society with free access to health care services.
