Casting director Sahil Ashrafali Sayyed had lodged the complaint in the court, seeking its direction for registration of an FIR under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity), 295A (malicious acts meant to outrage the religious feelings), 124A (sedition) against the actor and her sister, his lawyer Ravish Zamindar said.

The complainant said the sisters should be charged under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, meant to outrage religious feelings of any class) and 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code. The court had ordered an FIR to be registered against the sisters on Friday.

According to the complaint filed by Munawwar, offences under sections 153A, 295A, 124 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code have been committed by Ranaut and Chandel through their interviews and social media accounts.

Sayyed also pointed to Ranaut's comment comparing Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and her remarks on the Sushant Singh Rajput case.

Jaydeo Khule, metropolitan magistrate said in his order: "On prima facie perusal of complaint and submissions..." The sisters have been accused of spreading communal hatred, using offensive language and making derogatory comments against Bollywood and Maharashtra's Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in their tweets and interviews.

"The court directed the Bandra police station officials to probe the matter under Section 156 (3) of the CrPC and take necessary action", advocate Zamindar told IANS.

The complainant also stated, "Police investigation is necessary to ascertain the real motive behind such hate tweets, and who are the people backing such hatred to create communal tension and sentiments".

Sayyed has alleged that she has continuously been defaming the Bollywood film industry as a hub of nepotism, favouritism and is portraying its members as "drug addicts, communally biased people, murderers, etc" through her tweets and TV interviews.

Ranaut's lawyer Rizwan Siddiqee said, "Order passed by the learned magistrate shall be legally dealt with on "merits" as per the procedure of law".
