India records decline in new Covid cases, tally over 74L

On Saturday, the Health Ministry data said 65,24,595 have been discharged, 7,95,087 are now active while 1,12,998 lost the battle against the pandemic.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on 7 August, 30 lakh on 23 August and 40 lakh on 5 September. "This significant achievement is the outcome of Centre-led targetted strategies leading to a high number of recoveries, and steadily falling number of fatalities", it said in a tweet. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 7,95,087 active Covid-19 cases in the country and it is merely 10.70 per cent of the total cases.

There are 7,95,087 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 10.70 percent of the total caseload, while the recoveries have surged to 65,24,595, according to the data. The case fatality rate as on date stands at 1.52 per cent. The recovery rate stood at 87.78% and the mortality rate was 1.52%.

Tamil Nadu has 41,872 active cases, with 6,22,458 recoveries, alongside 10,472 fatalities.

A total of 837 case fatalities have been reported in a span of 24 hours.

Thirteen states and Union Territories, including Puducherry (403), Maharashtra (335), Goa (331), Delhi (317), Karnataka (152), Tamil Nadu (135) and Punjab (131), had deaths per million population more than the national average.

Maharashtra has reported the maximum single day deaths (306 deaths).

It's the lowest daily case tally for more than four months, since 9 June, bringing Melbourne's 14-day following average down to 8.7. Karnataka, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are the other states where the Centre would send their expert team.

The teams will support the state efforts towards strengthening containment, surveillance, testing, infection prevention and control measures, and efficient clinical management of the positive cases. "The Central teams shall also guide in effectively managing the challenges related to timely diagnosis and follow up", it added.
