Knight Riders signed up Ali Khan as a replacement for injured Harry Gurney. Ali, who became the first ever United States of America cricketer to land an IPL contract, complained of a side strain and will leave UAE without playing a single match. Before the match against Mumbai Indians, Dinesh Karthik gave up the captaincy of Kolkata Knight Riders team, after which England player Eoin Morgan was made the captain of the team.

Tim Seifert, the New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman has replaced injured United States of America fast bowler Ali Khan at IPL franchise two-time title winners Kolkata Knight Riders.

Two wickets from Lockie Ferguson propelled the Kolkata Knight Riders to a thrilling victory in the third Super Over of IPL 2020 after a tense Sunrisers Hyderabad run chase ended with the scores level in regular play at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

The news of Tim Seifert replacing Khan first emerged in a report in Stuff on Friday, which had mentioned that Northern Districts, Seifert's domestic team, had "confirmed" that the cricketer "was another absentee (for the Plunket Shield) in coming weeks, summoned to the IPL as a replacement player". Khan carried the side strain from the CPL into the IPL. "Hopefully, he will recover fast", Mysore had told ESPNcricinfo then.

But questions around Khan's match-readiness never quite went away, with an IPL media statement on October 7 saying - prematurely, as it turned out - that he was "injured, and will miss the rest of the season".

The 25-year-old Seifert has played three ODIs and 24 T20Is for New Zealand since making his global debut in January 2019. He scored 457 runs in T20Is with the average of 22.85 and strike-rate of 139.75.
