Manchester United have triggered a one-year option on Paul Pogba's contract, extending the France midfielder's deal until June 2022, the British media reported on Friday.

Pogba rejoined United from Juventus in a then world-record deal in 2016, but has been hampered by injuries and inconsistent form for much of his second spell in the Premier League.

"Paul's our player, he's going to be here for another two years and I'm sure he is focused on doing his best for us and we want to see the best of Paul", Solskjaer told reporters.

The contract extension means that Real Madrid will be compelled to pay a few for the player next season if they pursue a transfer for the player that they have already earmarked a potential future "Galactico".

"Many things have been said".

Pogba had sparked speculation that he was to leave for Real Madrid in an interview recently, where he admitted that it would be a "dream" to pull on the white jersey at the Santiago Bernebeu. "It's a dream of mine, so why not one day?"

However, he also said that he loved being at Old Trafford and prefers to help United any way he can.

United head to Newcastle looking to react to the 6-1 humbling at home to Tottenham before the worldwide break.

Football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano believes that the move is a prelude to offering Pogba a new contract that would keep him at the club for the rest of his peak years.

"Every player goes through hard periods but you have to be strong mentally and we all need to try and get the team back to where it belongs", Pogba said at the time.

Just three days after putting in a solid display in the comeback win against Belgium, the 27-year-old received his marching orders for two rash challenges in the first half of a match that ended in a 1-0 defeat to Denmark. Real never made an offer near what the Red Devils wanted.
