Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev suffers heart attack, undergoes critical surgery

India " s first World Cup-winning cricket captain Kapil Dev suffered a heart attack and underwent an angioplasty on Friday but is expected to be discharged in the next couple of days, said the hospital where he is now admitted.

India's World Cup winning former captain Kapil Dev underwent emergency coronary angioplasty after suffering from a heart attack in New Delhi, reported Indian publication Times of India. During the final clash, Dev took a running catch to dismiss the risky Vivian Richards off Madan Lal's delivery which changed the match and cricket's stature in India. Even several cricketers and Bollywood celebrities have taken to social media and wished him a speedy recovery.

"Currently, he is admitted in ICU and under close supervision of Dr. Atul Mathur and his team. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in a couple of days". Coming back to the story, we wish him a speedy recovery. "So much more to do", wrote Harsha Bhogle.

# Kapil Dev became the youngest player to achieve the double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in the longest format of the game in 1980. He was honoured with Wisden's "Indian Cricketer of the Century" in 2002 and was inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s Hall of Fame in 2010. He also served as India's national coach between 1999 and 2000.

The 61-year-old Dev has recently been actively campaigning to help cricketers who are struggling after losing jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and those who do not receive a pension. He is now a cricket commentator.
