In another place, the ministry of Defence has asserted that 12 Taliban guerrillas have been killed in a strike in northern Takhar province, which was steered by Afghan warplanes on the afternoon of Wednesday. Javed Hesari, the spokesman for the governor of Takhar province, said that the encounter between security forces and Taliban militants is continuing after the attack. Heavy fighting with the Taliban in Takhar since Tuesday has left at least 25 security personnel dead. "These security forces were on their way for an operation in the district when they were attacked by the Taliban", said Henri.

In a Facebook post, Saleh also threatened legal action against those "who make false allegations", but he did not share details about the suspected detainee.

The ministry noted, however, that a special team had been assigned to investigate reports of civilian casualties.

"The news of the killing of children in a mosque in Takhar is baseless". The Taliban last Friday agreed to halt their attacks on condition that the US stop its airstrikes in the area.

Local media reports that all twelve casualties were children, while 18 other civilians were injured.

Hadi Jamal, a spokesman for an Afghan military unit, confirmed the incident, but said that "it is not clear whether the attack accidentally killed civilians and children" and said that an investigation was opened. 'The free expression rights of those reporting on alleged violations should be respected'.

Vice-President Amm Allah Saleh denied that there were children in the mosque. The reason for India's support of the current Afghan government could be Kashmir, he said, adding that India must not fight its Kashmir war on the soil of Afghanistan.

A recent increase in violence nationwide comes as Afghan government representatives and the Taliban are holding peace talks in Qatar, where the Taliban have for years maintained a political office.

Also a woman was killed and four children and seven men were wounded in a rocket attack fired by the Taliban group in Faryab province, according to the AIHRC. This has led to many personnel of the Afghan forces being martyred.
