Indias World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev suffers heart attack

Earlier in the day, the hospital, Fortis Escorts Okhla Road, issued a statement saying the former cricketer is now in ICU and under close supervision.

Cricket legend Kapil Dev, who underwent an angioplasty surgery in New Delhi's Fortis Escort Heart Hospital (Okhla) after suffering a heart attack, is stable now, the hospital authorities have said.

Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) President Ashok Malhotra, a friend of Kapil, told PTI that the iconic cricketer is doing fine.

Following the news break, social media has been abuzz with his fans and followers wishing him a speedy recovery. I just spoke to his wife. He was feeling uneasy yesterday (Thursday). "Mr. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in couple of days", the statement added.

Legendary Indian cricketer and captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning side Kapil Dev underwent an angioplasty on Friday morning at a Delhi hospital after he complained of uneasiness and chest pain, which was later confirmed to be a heart attack. After an evaluation, an emergency coronary angioplasty was performed in the middle of night.

However, a source close to Kapil said, "The heart attack was a rumour. He is absolutely fine".

Dev captained India's World Cup winning team in 1983. In total, he took a remarkable 434 Test wickets and 253 one-day global wickets.

Here's hoping all is well at Kapil's end and we wish him a super speedy recovery going forward.

He represented India in 131 Tests, amassing 5,248 runs in addition to picking up 434 wickets.

After retiring from the game in 1994, he served as the head coach of the Indian.
