(Update) Nintendo is discounting its Switch Joy-Con controllers

Nintendo announced today that it will permanently cut the price of a single Joy-Con controller in the United States from $49.99 to $39.99.

Nintendo of America has announced that Switch owners will finally be able to purchase single red/blue Joy-Con controllers starting on November 9. It's been this way for many years as Nintendo hardware rarely drops in price this close to release, but there might be some hope out of Japan.

Interestingly, Nintendo appears to only be discounting two very specific models of its controllers: a right Joy-Con in red, and a left Joy-Con in blue - exactly matching the two controllers that are included in Nintendo's default blue/red Switch SKU. It's unclear if Nintendo is just specifically advertising those two Joy-Con colors or if the company is saying that only those two colors are receiving the price cut. IGN has reached out to Nintendo for further comment and will update this story accordingly when we hear back. Going into the new generation, it's already going to be a pain to buy (and potentially replace) brand new PS5 controllers.

As anyone who has replaced their drifting Switch Joy-Con knows: those little controllers can get pretty expensive to replace.
