Bobby Ball dies after testing positive for the coronavirus

The entertainer, was best known for being one half of comedy duo Cannon and Ball alongside Tommy Cannon, had recently been diagnosed with coronavirus and suffered breathing difficulties as a result.

The comedian, actor and singer - who was one half of the double act Cannon & Ball - had been in hospital with breathing problems and passed away on 28th October.

Bobby later died at the same Blackpool hospital and his wife has praised staff there for their care. At first it was thought to be a chest infection but a test proved positive for Covid-19.

"She said that the family and Tommy would like to express their honest thanks to the many, many people who have been fans of Bobby and they know that they will all share in part the great loss and total sadness that Yvonne, the family and Tommy all feel". Thoughts with Tommy, Yvonne and his family at this sad time. No further announcements or statements will be made'.

Echoing one of Ball's famous catchphrases - "Rock on Tommy!"

Bobby Ball has been called a "good friend" by his Cannon and Ball co-star Tommy Cannon after his death.

Bobby married his first wife, Joan, in 1964 and welcomed two children, Robert and Darren who grew up to follow their father's footsteps and carve a career in comedy and are now known as the "Harper Brothers".

Among those paying tribute this morning was comic Jason Manford, who said: 'So heartbroken to read about the passing of comedy legend Bobby Ball.

"He was a true entertainer with real amusing bones".

And impressionist Kate Robbins tweeted: "I'm so terribly sad to hear that the brilliant Bobby Ball has died".

"The comedy community is a poorer place without him".

Tommy and Bobby also starred in the film The Boys in Blue in 1982.

After the success of The Cannon And Ball Show, he appeared in a string of TV series including as Lenny in Last Of The Summer Wine from 2005 to 2008.

Whetting his appetite for reality TV, Ball went on to compete in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special in 2012. Together, the two appeared on The Cannon and Ball Show which premiered on ITV in 1979 and continued until 1988.

Ball's wife Yvonne said: 'I will always miss him, he was so joyful, full of fun and mischievous'.

His manger, Dale, said: "Bobby was a true comedy star who loved entertaining people and he loved life itself".
