Honda Civic prototype launched and interior teased

That's why Honda revealed the new Civic on Twitch, a streaming and social media platform for video game players, Tuesday evening. More details at the bottom of the story. The new cues are meant to give the Civic a meaner look, while also keeping the design relatively simple.

If this is a recurring theme, we could reasonably expect that this new model is still formed from the shared bedrock of the outgoing vehicle. The C-shaped tail lamps have been replaced with a more conventional design featuring L-shaped LEDs. A subtle "trailing-edge" spoiler gives the Civic a more sweeping look in profile while helping with aerodynamics, and the dual exhaust tips on the prototype offer a sportier take. The auto rides on 19-inch alloy wheels. A freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen taking pride of place on what is an otherwise minimalistic dashboard. A honeycomb mesh design stretches the width of the facia, helping hide the air vents.

Overall the Civic looks simplified and more sophisticated, but it does keep the sane style grille, low bonnet and stance - although the former has been downsized. In its 11th generation, the Honda Civic has a completely new front design on the outside with a more emphatic grille and sleeker LED head lights.

The new Civic will go on sale in the late spring starting with the sedan version. However, Honda has yet to confirm any of the car's measurements.

According to Honda, the 11th-generation (globally) Civic also has an upgraded chassis and will be available in sedan, hatchback, Si and Type R variations.

As the Civic closes in on almost a half-century, the four-door is getting a modest makeover for its 11th generation.

In a win for enthusiasts, United States media reports that Si and Type R variants will retain their manual transmissions. All-wheel-drive is rumoured to be in the works, but a slim chance for the Australian market.

Due out "next spring", or early Q2 2021 in normal speak as a 2022 model, the orange example here is the upcoming iteration of the popular Honda C-segmenter, which the company boasts as having been the best selling vehicle in North America. A hatchback will follow at a later date.

But the Civic is important for Honda because it attracts young, value-focused buyers (prices for the current Civic start at just over $20,000.) Those Civic buyers, as they get older and their incomes increase, often become loyal Honda customers, Robinson said.

Honda has yet to outline powertrains or technical specifications for the new machine. Instead, the local range will consist exclusively of regular and Type R hatch models.
