Record 1,336 new COVID-19 cases in Alberta, nine deaths

Edmonton also saw three deaths not linked to any specific outbreak.

Currently, Canada accounts for a total of 324,375 Covid-19 cases and 11,397 deaths, reports Xinhua news agency.

There are 81 active cases in Medicine Hat, 114 recoveries and 2 deaths.

In the past week the province has confirmed more new cases than any other week to date, Hinshaw said.

Numavut reported 18 new cases today, taking the territory's total to 128 with the bulk concentrated in the community of Arviat.

Dr. Theresa Tam is urging Canadians to be cautious amid what she describes as rapid epidemic growth across the country.

"To do this, we need to limit close contacts to those in your immediate household and reduce in-person interactions to only essential errands and activities, while consistently maintaining key public health practices", Tam said.
