The Australian artist known for her hits like "Chandelier" and "Elastic Heart" announced the release of the trailer for the film titled "Music" in a post to Twitter on Thursday. While the press release from this week and the trailer don't explicitly say that Ziegler's character is autistic, it had been previously reported in an August 2018 Rolling Stone profile of Sia along with other details about the musical film.

Sia also insists that criticism over her depiction of an autistic character is premature and that people need to watch the movie for themselves.

The singer was challenged over the casting of the main character, who is playing by a non-autistic actor.

Sia's album Music (songs from and inspired by the motion picture) is out February 12, 2021 and features "Hey Boy", "Together", & more.

They have also pointed out the irony of a movie about disability, with no captions for hearing impaired viewers. ("Hamilton") and Maddie Ziegler, who has featured in most of Sia's videos over the past few years. The character was never referred to as disabled, but rather someone with "special abilities", she said.

"I believe this movie is handsome, Will create more good than harm and if I'm wrong I'll pay for it for the rest of my life", responded Sia.

"I actually tried working with a a handsome young girl non verbal on the spectrum and she found it unpleasant and stressful".

Sia then responded by saying: "I agree". "F-king sad nobody's even seen the dang movie". "The first is obvious - that it inevitably, no matter how hard it tries, mistranslates the experience of being autistic".

A fan questioned what she meant by the "cruel, not kind", comment.

"Autism speaks is a hate group, Sia, stop throwing your toys out the pram and maybe actually listen to autistic people and adjust your behaviour instead of writing them off as a lost cause and haters", one person shared.

She was angry at the early criticism that she got for the film, and at one point shared: "Why don't you watch my film before you judge it?"

In some final tweets on the topic, Sia stressed that she was really looking forward to an audience watching and sharing their thoughts on the project.

After watching the trailer for the film, many critics took to Twitter to express their disappointment with Sia's casting choice, arguing that it was an "ableist" decision.
