This is KU football's first in-season postponement because of COVID.

KU had to postpone its scheduled matchup with Texas, as the Jayhawks are unable to meet the Big 12's minimum thresholds for competition, due to players at an undisclosed position testing positive for COVID-19.

"The position group affected has a combination of injuries and contact tracing", Kansas said in a release.

Texas, which is 4-2 in the Big 12 and has won three straight games, remains in the running for a spot in the Big 12 championship game, which will be played on December 19 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Jayhawks previously were scheduled to end their season on December 5 at Texas Tech.

As multiple college football games across the country got postponed or canceled each week throughout the past couple of months of the pandemic, the Kansas football schedule somehow remained unharmed through seven games. The athletic department reported, since November 8, that its football program has performed 825 COVID-19 tests, with five coming back positive on various testing days during that period.

The game has been rescheduled for December 12.

Overall, 14 out of 62 games involving Bowl Subdivision teams scheduled for this week have been called off. The Longhorns are next scheduled to play on Friday, Nov. 27 at home against the 17th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones.
