Tristan Thompson has agreed to a deal with the Boston Celtics, his agent told Yahoo Sports.

Per the Athletic's Joe Vardon, Thompson's deal is for two years and $19 million - likely Boston's full non-taxpayer mid-level exception.

Thompson should play a key role for the Celtics in 2021. Thompson will join Daniel Theis and the Time Lord Robert Williams in the Celtics' big man rotation.

Thompson averaged 12 points and 10.1 rebounds a game last season in Cleveland, although he will not be asked to carry the same offensive load.

Thompson figures to shore up the interior weaknesses of Boston's starting five, offering post-scoring and rebounding to a club that features perimeter stars like Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker.

But he also shot just 51% on 2-pointers, his lowest mark since 2013-14, while his 1.8 turnovers per game were a career high.

The 29-year-old Thompson's departure from the Cavs ends his nine-year career with the team, which was largely focused on his ability in the paint and on defense. He was a part of their championship run in 2016.

MassLive will have more on this as it develops.
