Now they have one. Looking to replace Tristan Thompson, the Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired McGee and a future draft pick from the Lakers for forwards Alfonzo McKinnie and Jordan Bell, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020.

Gasol is nearing the end of his career and there was a thought that he would finish it back where it began in Spain, although this indicates he will give it a go in the National Basketball Association with the Lakers for at least two more seasons.

McGee, 32, has played with six teams during his 12-year National Basketball Association career. Last season, Gasol averaged 7.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. His 13-year career with the Grizzlies and Raptors includes three all-star game appearances, two all-NBA teams and the 2012-13 Defensive Player of the Year award.

Gasol, who will turn 36 in January, was originally drafted by the Lakers in the second round of the 2007 National Basketball Association draft but never played for the team, instead being used as a piece in the team's deal for his brother, Pau Gasol, with Memphis. The Spanish center also had other options on the table. The Cavs will continue to explore potential signings with their mid-level exception. All NBA proceeds donated to charity.
