New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko has fired a second successive quality round at the Pelican Women's Championship but her more than two-and-a-half-year LPGA Tour title drought looks set to continue.

"I just gave myself better numbers, and with the wind it's kind of tough to get yourself exactly the numbers that you like".

She was 10 strokes adrift current leader Sei Young Kim of South Korea, but still in contention. "When I [got] to three-shot lead I was like, 'Oh, my God, she can't be like chase me.' I was like, 'OK, Sei Young, focus, keep going.' Yeah". She parred Nos. 3 and 4 then caught fire on number five before ending her front nine with another birdie on the par-three ninth.

"If you see the leaderboard then I think I think about the other things".

The World No 42 shot a final round one-under-par 69 to finish with an eight-under four-round total of 272. Having obviously an exemption for the next couple years just frees up the swing a little bit, my mindset, I can be a little bit more aggressive, and I think I just took advantage of that.

"I'm playing with a different confidence level".

"I wasn't really getting anything out there on the front nine but definitely nice to finish strong on the back", Ko said.

"She made a hole-in-one".

In a four-way tied for sixth place were a trio of Americans including Jessica Korda (64), Angela Stanford (65) and Jennifer Song (65), as well as Canadian Brooke Henderson (69). I made some good putts coming down. He put his hands up. But its a great feeling, even though there was only about ten people that saw it. She bucked an early mishap in the opening hole and took the next two on birdies.

The Northern Irishwoman recovered from two immediate bogeys as she battled for second with United States player Ally McDonald. She last played the Women's Australian Open in February before the tour began shutting down its Asia swing because of the pandemic.

The first-year tournament was originally to be held the same week as the PGA Championship in May.
