In Toronto, now in its second day of lockdown under the province's colour-coded COVID-19 system, restrictions on businesses continued to stir debate and some pushback Tuesday.

"And above 350 it becomes impossible", public health documents say.

"Within the COVID-19 Response Framework, an incidence rate that exceeds 10 cases per 100,00 people is one of the factors considered by the province to determine if HPEPH should move into the yellow/protect zone".

However, there was some confusion over the actual number of cases.

On Tuesday, Premier Doug Ford announced that the province has received 1.2 million Panbio rapid antigen tests that will support a screening program for long-term care homes and other workplaces.

Hospitals and COVID-19 assessment centres in Eastern Ontario are now using rapid tests to detect the virus.

The province reported there were 534 people hospitalized due to the virus with 159 in intensive care unit and 91 on a ventilator.

Ontario reported 1,534 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, along with 14 new deaths.

"These new rapid tests are gamechangers in the fight against COVID-19", said Premier Ford.

"Our government strongly advocated for the approval of these rapid tests to help provide timely access to testing for Ontarians who need it the most", said Minister Elliott.

"This new technology can provide test results in hours, even minutes, instead of days". And more shipments are on their way. While the ford government has expanded daily testing to 50,000, numbers have been falling short of this for some weeks.

Officials say the new tests will be first used in some hospitals and assessment centres in rural and remote areas.

Some will also be sent to corporations such as Air Canada and Ontario Power Generation, while others will be used over several months in a pilot project involving private, public and non-profit sector employers to gauge the value of antigen testing on asymptomatic workers, it said.
