The ground was due to operate at 50 per cent capacity but will now be limited to 9,500 spectators for the match, which is due to start on Thursday.

Cricket Australia added that the tickets already purchased would be refunded and tickets would be resold.

SYDNEY: In the wake of the new surge in coronavirus cases, it has been made a decision to limit the number of spectators at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) where the pink Test is scheduled to be played between Australia and India this week.

"There's obviously a lot going on off the field, but if you look at the series itself, it's 1-1 and there's been two hotly contested Tests so far with the ball dominating the bat, which is good for Test match cricket".

India's cricketers and staff have been cleared of Covid-19 following reports some of the team's players breached health protocols while on tour in Australia. Travel restrictions are in place in cities and states across Australia.

Following those claims, Cricket Australia and BCCI released a joint statement saying they are now investigating the alleged breach.

Singh suggested on Friday he paid the bill for the table and then hugged Pant, although on Saturday Singh claimed there was no hug and players kept their distance.

According to strict biosecurity protocols set by CA, players are allowed to sit outside but not allowed to dine inside restaurants.

"All tests have returned negative results", the BCCI said in a statement on Monday.

"Playing members of the Indian Cricket Team and support staff underwent an RT-PCR Test for Covid-19 on January 3, 2021". Lyon said. "Let's just suck it up and get on with it". Ros Bates, while interacting with the media persons on Sunday (January 3), said: "If the Indians don't want to play by the rules, don't come".

"We speak to our counterparts at the BCCI daily", he said.

"We have clarified in the last 24 hours what the precise requirements are in Brisbane ... everyone is fully across that, and supportive".
