India's cricketers and staff have been cleared of Covid-19 following reports some of the team's players breached health protocols while on tour in Australia. "All tests have returned negative results", the BCCI said in a statement.

Rahul's injury means that out of form opener Mayank Agarwal would continue to open for India in the remaining two Test matches of the 4-match series.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) said players and support staff were tested on Sunday.

It may be recalled that the Pink Test will begin from January 7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Indian cricket fans can heave a sigh of relief as the team tests negative in their recent COVID-19 Tests in Melbourne, bringing controversy surrounding five players breaking protocols to an end.

There are now an estimated 273 active cases in Australia, although many are travelers in quarantine.

Tony Shepherd, head of Venues NSW which manages the stadium, said significant measures had been taken to ensure the safety of fans.
