In a recent interview with Deadline, Kevin Feige shared a little more about the future of Wakanda and Black Panther 2.

A second Black Panther movie is now in the works and writer / director Ryan Coogler is working on how to tell the story without star Chadwick Boseman returning as T'Challa.

"Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally".

"A lot of the comics and this first movie is the world of Wakanda". Wakanda is a place where you can explore endlessly, between characters and different cultures. "This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story", said Feige. "And it is for that reason that we will not recast the character", Feige added.

Shuri taking over the role of Black Panther would also aid Marvel's ongoing push to place more women in the front lines of their films.

Chadwick Boseman died on August 28, 2020, following a four-year battle against colon cancer.

While details about "Black Panther 2" are still very scarce, we do know the sequel film will hit theaters July 8, 2022. "There is only one Chadwick and he is not with us", he announced.

"Black Panther", which starred Boseman as the titular hero, grossed $700 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide.

There was speculation amongst fans that his character T'challa would be recast or Chadwick would be re-created on-screen using CGI. We loved Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther and will continue to remember him as our Wakanda's hero.

"A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you numerous films you have come to love so much". The character was first prodded in Iron Man 2 back in 2009, preceding being alluded to again in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Agents of SHIELD, and Avengers: Endgame.

As mentioned above, Kevin Feige has been quite into the upcoming Black Panther project, so it would be quite interesting to see what Marvel Studios can offer to the audience.
