Sheffield United's Billy Sharp falls in the penalty area after a tackle by Newcastle's Federico Fernandez prompting a VAR check for penalty during the English Premier League soccer match between Sheffield United and Newcastle United at the Bramall Lane stadium in Sheffield, England, Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021.

The dust may have settled from last night, but tensions are extremely high following the very bad performance from the Magpies.

Sheffield United moved onto five points, leaving Chris Wilder's team nine from safety approaching the halfway point of the season.

"I was looking for my vehicle keys and to take up another sport if we'd thrown it away in added time", he added. We've not had a great time in the last few months but we've got to keep our heads high now.

"I think we've had, apart from the last month which we knew would be hard with the run of fixtures we've had, we've given ourselves a decent start to the season".

"Everyone has written us off, the pressure is off".

With Newcastle already a man down following the 45th-minute sending-off of winger Ryan Fraser, Sheffield United had no problems seeing out the win.

'I understand that, especially watching the first half, we weren't good enough, and at the end of the day, I take responsibility for that, because I pick the team'. We played with the identity that has been the way we have played for the last few years.

The result ended a record run of 20 league matches without a win for the Blades and will undoubtedly be a relief for everyone connected to the club. A long ball forward was contested between Sharp and Federico Fernandez in the box, with the Blades striker going down under the challenge. "I thought the referee got it spot on when he didn't give it".
