Three provinces are publicly reporting updated vaccination numbers daily: Quebec, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden on Monday received his second COVID-19 shot, and said that getting vaccines into people's arms would be a "number one priority" for his incoming administration.

The shipping schedule now has three million Canadians on track to be vaccinated by the end of March, another 10 million by the end of June and a further 22 million by the end of September. The measures, which do not apply to trade flows, were first imposed last March and have been regularly rolled over.

"We should be prepared for there to be some bumps along the road because there is no historical precedent for immunizing the planet", said Upshur.

"The system is on the brink of collapse", Ford said.

Canada's panel of vaccine experts is considering how to maximize COVID-19 protection with the current supply of vaccines as Ontario strives to administer the first dose in all of its nursing homes by the middle of next month. Quebec hospitals have 1,497 COVID-19 patients, including 221 in intensive care.

Irish health officials this evening confirmed 46 additional COVID-19 deaths here in Ireland, 2 of which occurred in December 2020 while 44 occurred throughout January so far. Most are prioritizing front-line health-care workers and residents in long-term care for the first round of vaccines.

This new, gene-based technology has proven effective in the development of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech in addition to the one created by Moderna.

The federal government has secured millions of more doses of COVID-19 vaccine for Canadians, the prime minister announced Tuesday.

"Following a thorough review of all the submitted data on safety, efficacy and quality, Swissmedic has today temporarily authorised the Moderna vaccine", the regulator said. "This will make sure that they have the vaccines and the information they need to keep rolling out doses as quickly, as smoothly and as efficiently as possible", he said.

Canada has options to buy even more from both Pfizer and Moderna but those deliveries wouldn't come until late this year or even into 2022.

Once provinces start receiving more shipments, they may find the freezer is full if they aren't prepared. The province has administered doses at a rate of 10.805 per 1,000.
