"So every time I step out in public and someone calls my name, I think they're going to yell at me".

She added: "The only person who calls me Anne is my mother and she only does it when she's really mad at me, like really mad".

Anne Hathaway described her worst day of middle school while playing Best, Worst, First with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

"Call me Annie, everyone, everyone, call me Annie, please", she continued.

Referring back to her first commercial at the age of 14 where she was asked what name she wanted on her Screen Actors Guild card, she opted to go with her birth name, not realizing it would follow her for the rest of her life. My name is Anne Hathaway.

'Call me Annie, everybody.

Hathaway explained her resentment of "Anne" comes from how it's used in her personal life. "And I was like, 'Well, it should be my name".

'Can we talk about my name for a second?,' she asked Fallon after he introduced her as Anne, before inquiring about her name.

Anne Hathaway - excuse me, Annie Hathaway - will star alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor in the HBO Max film "Locked Down", debuting Thursday. "What did I do?!'" she joked. What did I do?' People are so lovely they don't want to be presumptuous and so I think they come up with workarounds on set because the truth is nobody's comfortable with calling me Anne ever.

The "Devils Wears Prada" actress doesn't really mind what people call her, as long as it's not Anne.
