LG Rollable to commercially launch later this year

The foldable phone is becoming a more prominent part of the smartphone conversation. We will have to wait to know more details, something that will come sooner rather than later.

LG announced a new rollable phone at CES this week, expected to roll out in 2021.

Thanks to patents, leaks, and vague teasers we've known that LG has a rollable smartphone in the works for a while, but the company has now officially confirmed it, as well as revealing that - as rumored - the name is indeed the LG Rollable. Then these At a press conference on Monday, TCL again showed an update of its foldable device, as it released a new video of the concept device expanding and retracting in a woman's hand. In a bid to renew interest in its mobile lineup, LG has eschewed its historically conservative designs in favor of more experimental products developed via its "Explorer Project".

This isn't the first time we're seeing a concept smartphone with a rollable display - TCL said it was working on a similar concept phone previous year, and Oppo even went ahead and showed us a working concept phone with a rollable display a few months back.

Once a major player among the top-tier smartphone makers, LG's reputation, particularly with flagship phones, has taken a hit as larger players like Samsung and Huawei have overtaken it. How does it effect battery life?

"The portable 6.7-inch AMOLED Rollable Display re-defines the standard form of a smartphone". According to a report by Engadget, the device looks like a display that starts out phone-sized and stretches out into a tiny tablet.

The concept of a rollable phone has been teased by both TCL and Oppo, but the LG Rollable might just be the first in the market. LG has only shown the Rollable in landscape mode so far, but it looks like a motorised mechanism moves the screen back and forth.
