The Alabama-Ohio State College Football Playoff finale Monday averaged 18.7 million viewers across the ESPN networks, making it the least-watched title game since 2005.

O'Brien, who was most recently the head coach of the Houston Texans before he was sacked this season, was reportedly on campus Wednesday, and with the team last week in the days leading up to the College Football Playoff national championship game in Miami. "I've always thought he's the best coach ever in college football, and I still feel that way".

O'Brien, who also served as the Texans' general manager past year, was sacked four games into the 2020 season.

Assuming O'Brien does join the Tide, he will become the seventh offensive coordinator at Alabama since Saban took over the program in 2007. Sarkisian left to become head coach at the University of Texas.

While his most recent coaching experience was in the National Football League, O'Brien also has a long history of coaching in college. After a brief stopover at Penn State, he was head coach of the Texans from 2014 until October 5, 2020.

Similar to Saban, O'Brien also has strong ties to Bill Belichick and coached under Belichick with the New England Patriots for five seasons from 2007 to "11, the final season as the Patriots" offensive coordinator. O'Brien was the Patriots' offensive coordinator in 2011.
