It's also the 36th Godzilla film and the 12th King Kong film, but forget all of that: this is the ultimate battle between two of the ultimate monsters that doesn't need the knowledge of these previous films to enjoy.

More than likely the new Godzilla vs. Kong trailer will be released during NFL football. With WB not having spoken to their partners before making the announcement, Legendary was understandably upset and the two studios have reportedly been engaging in frantic talks to come to a new deal. We got a (two-second) first look at Godzilla vs. Kong in an HBO Max sizzle reel unveiled last weekend, and the upcoming trailer will no doubt satisfy fans' hunger for a proper look, who have been waiting since a year ago due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Behind the scenes, Adam Wingard directs Godzilla vs. Kong off a script by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein.

But that's not where the news stops. As we've heard before, King Kong has been growing steadily since we last saw him in the 1970s-set Kong: Skull Island, which means that by the time he faces down the Big G - who just proved he was the baddest kaiju of them all in Godzilla: King of the Monsters - things will be fairly even. Godzilla vs. Kong looks like a serious battle throughout illuminated skyscrapers, in the sea, and other locales. And probably very destructive. But it does announce that the film's first full trailer - which will hopefully be longer than six seconds - premieres this coming Sunday, January 24.

Ahead of Sunday's trailer, two brief teasers have been released for the blockbuster MonsterVerse crossover Godzilla vs. Kong, which give us a sneak peek at the upcoming clash between the two iconic movie monsters; check them out here...

Godzilla vs. Kong is now slated to release March 26 in cinemas worldwide.

Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir, Ronny Chieng, Chris Chalk, John Pirrucello, Zhang Ziyi, Van Marten, and Lance Reddick.
