It was horrific. And then the void in information we created started misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theories.

Andrew Cuomo spoke to press on Monday and blamed the "toxic political environment" for the nursing home deaths cover-up, saying that he wanted to get the "facts" straight regarding the nursing home scandal in his state.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James launched an investigation into the nursing home deaths in New York state, finding that the state drastically underreported the number of dead in nursing homes, but up to 50 percent.

Michael Montesano, of Glen Head, says he plans to ask the state legislature to consider the impeachment.

Echoing an explanation DeRosa gave Friday, Cuomo said the state was slow to respond to the lawmakers because officials prioritized dealing with requests from the Justice Department and were busy dealing with the work of the pandemic: "It's not like people were in the South of France", he said.

Perhaps most alarming for the Cuomo administration, 14 New York Democrats (so far) signed on to a petition calling for Cuomo's emergency pandemic powers to be revoked.

The article also claims that while Cuomo urged the return of recovering patients to their respective care facilities, "state and federal rules didn't force nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients, but many of them believed they had no other choice".

While the article admits that Cuomo's fatal advisory faced scrutiny from multiple people and went against recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the author used a faulty report conducted by the state's Health Department and Cuomo, who claimed last summer that the state did nothing wrong and that most of the patients returned to nursing homes "were no longer contagious when admitted and therefore were not a source of infection".

Cuomo said his team "did everything they could" to protect nursing home patients amid an unprecedented public health crisis.
