For much of central Kentucky this looks to be a mostly snow event that begins as some very light snow Wednesday afternoon and wraps up Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather warning with freezing rain in the forecast overnight through early Wednesday morning. Wintry weather may continue across our northwestern counties Wednesday night and Thursday where temperatures stay a bit colder.

Harsh winter conditions continued through Tuesday morning as an ice storm hit the area, making travel treacherous. We should start the day with sunshine, but clouds will quickly increase by this afternoon and evening hours.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting the snow will mainly occur after 10 a.m. Thursday with a total snow accumulation of between three and five inches.

Today: Light freezing rain, light snow and light sleet through mid afternoon, then light sleet and light snow likely in the late afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville and Birmingham have issued winter storm warnings for their northwest counties, and a few counties farther south have a winter weather advisory.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Paul Walker said area residents should prepare before the weather gets worse. Winds NE 10-15 miles per hour. Cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s. Lows in the mid 30s.

The snow is expected to be heavy and wet, potentially putting an even greater strain on already laden trees encased in ice and threatening to bring down more power lines.

"However, by Thursday night, dry conditions are expected". Mild with highs in the upper 50s.

We'll have yet another hard freeze on Friday morning with low in the low 20s.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy skies with a chance of rain showers.
