Hinshaw on Saturday said there had been a "significant" Brazilian variant outbreak, but gave no further details until Monday.

"The outbreak started with a traveller returning to Alberta from out of province". The province also reported 931 new COVID-19 cases in total, 676 of which were variants of concern.

She says the outbreak has been confined to 3 work sites in Central and North Zone, where employees travelled between sites.

"It's natural to be frustrated and to be sick and exhausted of this pandemic", Hinshaw said.

Kevin Zahara says he wants to know how big a risk there is to the wider community, but he hasn't heard from Alberta Health Services.

This now means variant cases make up 39 per cent of all active cases in the province, with our positivity rate at 9.9 per cent.

Alberta Health updated its online data on Monday afternoon, tallying up case numbers confirmed from Thursday to Sunday.

Kenney notes if the current trend continues, there will be 2,000 new daily COVID cases by the end of the month and up to 1,000 people in the hospital.

Four new deaths were reported on Monday.

More than 9,102 tests were completed Sunday.

The city now has 113 active COVID-19 cases.

Hinshaw said she is concerned about rising cases, including variants, in the province.

She thanked the public for their patience.
