Sporting a jacket with the word "love" printed on the back, told reporters the Bidens are "bringing love from America, trying to bring unity across the globe".

On their first overseas trip since her husband Joe became president, USA first lady Jill Biden had a simple message for the world emblazoned across the back of her jacket: "LOVE".

"I told the prime minister we have something in common: we both married above our station", Biden told reporters after he and Jill met the British leader and his wife Carrie who he married just last month.

Biden is known for her sartorial choices, often donning bright pastels or eye-catching patterns for her outings on behalf of the Biden administration. She is rarely seen without a kitten heel or stiletto boot, adding height to her petite frame.

The outfit drew immediate comparisons to former first lady Melania Trump, who infamously wore a green jacket emblazoned with the words "I really don't care, do u?" on its back during a 2018 visit to children separated from their parents at the US border. She wore a different jacket at the shelter.

Netizens commented that the First Lady could have meant to show the difference between the messaging of her husband's administration and that of US President Donald Trump, in an apparent attempt to appear more caring, or even "troll" her predecessor, as some suggested.

First lady Jill Biden on Thursday said President Biden is "over prepared" for his first overseas trip since taking office, ahead of summits and face-to-face meetings in Europe with allies and other world leaders.

On Friday, Jill Biden has a public engagement scheduled with Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, whose husband, Prince William, is an heir to the British throne.

During her time in the United Kingdom, the first lady will join the president in meeting Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle. The president is set to travel to Belgium ahead of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit. "This is his forte", she said.

Jill Biden is not the first USA president's wife to use a jacket to convey a message. "That's an exciting part of the visit for us".
