Veteran Bollywood actor Khanna dies aged 70

Starting his career with minor roles in 1969, over the years the actor built up a hugely successful career and featured in some of the biggest Bollywood hits like "Mere Apne", "Insaaf" "Parvarish" "Muqaddar Ka Siqandar", "Qurbani", "Dayavaan", "Mera Gaon Mera Desh" "Chandni" "The Burning Train" and "Amar, Akbar, Anthony" among many more.

Vinnod has been suffering from cancer and was brought to the hospital earlier this month, Still his condition was becoming more and more serious.

The veteran actor was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on March 31 due to severe dehydration.

The Mumbai premiere of much-awaited blockbuster "Baahubali: The Conclusion" was canceled as a mark of respect for Khanna, who died of advanced bladder carcinoma. He elected as MP for four times.

Salman Khan also shared his grief on Twitter over Vinod Khanna's demise. He has two sons from the first marriage - actors Akshaye and Rahul. Vinod Khanna hailed from Peshawar. Khanna separated from his first wife, Geetanjali, in 1985. In numerous earlier films, Khanna played a negative or a supporting role. Sunil Dutt had launched Vinod Khanna in a negative role in this film, where former's younger brother Som Dutt was playing the lead role.

In a tweet, actor Richa Chadha described Khanna as "the fantasy of most women in the northern India through the 1980s". His potential was first noticed in Gulzar's "Mere Apne" in 1971.

He returned to cinema in the late eighties, and courted success again with films such as Insaaf, Satyameva Jayate and Dayavan.

Amitabh Bachan and Khanna are a favorite pair. He last appeared on the silver screen in the 2015 film Dilwale. They had previously also worked in Wanted and a few other films.

While President Mukherjee called him "a highly talented and acclaimed actor and MP", Modi said Khanna was "a popular actor, dedicated leader, and a wonderful human".

Khanna's contemporary Shatrughan Sinha described his death as a personal loss.

The old and young celebrities remembered him as the most charismatic personality in Hindi film world.
