Announcing the closure of transport ties with Qatar, the three Gulf states gave Qatari visitors and residents two weeks to leave their countries.

"Qatar Airways continues to operate to the rest of its network as per its published schedules with day-to-day adjustments for operational and commercial efficiencies", he said, without elaborating further.

It added in a statement that the current tensions around Qatar, "exacerbate the hard situation in the entire Middle East region".

The crisis has put Turkey in a delicate position as Ankara regards Qatar as its chief ally in the Gulf but is also keen to maintain its improving relations with the key regional power Saudi Arabia.

He also said that "no one has the right" to pressure Qatar to silence TV network Al-Jazeera, which is based in Doha.

In a news conference Friday in Washington, President Trump said Qatar historically has been a "funder of terrorism at a very high level" and called the action against the country "hard but necessary".

Macron's office says he has held a series of conversations over the past week with the emir of Qatar, the king of Saudi Arabia, the Turkish president and the crown prince of Abu Dhabi.

The Saudi cabinet expressed satisfaction on Qatar-related decisions.

As the Qatari crisis unfolded, Erdogan nearly immediately announced "full support" for Doha, stating that "we don't find sanctions against Qatar right".

"This is the time to work for Qatar", he told Bloomberg of his plan to airlift the dairy aid package. It quotes the prime minister as saying he hopes the dispute between Qatar and its Arab neighbors will be resolved soon.

"I think that as the elder statesman of the Gulf, the king of Saudi Arabia should solve this affair and show leadership", said Erdogan.
