As the above video shows, the Titans anthem singers took a knee after they performed the anthem.

The Seahawks said their statement was for Sunday.

Players and team officials were not made available before the game.

Seattle has been one of the more outspoken teams in professional sports on social issues, led by Michael Bennett, Richard Sherman and Doug Baldwin.

"As a team, we wanted to be unified in our actions today".

Players from both teams remained in their lockers rooms during the song in a joint protest.

As a team, we have decided we will not participate in the national anthem. It comes after President Donald Trump over the weekend called on National Football League owners to fire players for conducting such protests. "He's fired, '" he said to loud applause.

"My mom is a attractive lady she has never been a bitch", Bennett posted on his Twitter feed Saturday.

Both the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks players chose to stay in the locker room during the national anthem.

"Wow! Is this what we've come to?"

"We're not going to play politics", Tomlin told CBS' Jamie Erdahl before the game. "#WORRIEDABOUTALLTHEWRONGTHINGS" Pro Bowl defensive end Cliff Avril posted on his Twitter account Saturday.

Earlier on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers stayed in the visiting tunnel before their game against the Chicago Bears.

The Titans also stayed in the locker room.

"These are hard times", Schneider said, mentioning "trying to keep 53, really 70-some players (including practice squad and injured reserve) together, right?" given they are from various backgrounds and beliefs. "We're not participating in the anthem today", Tomlin said.

Several NFL owners defended their players, however, including Trump's close friend, New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft, who said he was "deeply disappointed" with Trump's comments.
