Aretha Franklin will not long headline Jazz Fest on April 28. The Queen of Soul also canceled her appearance at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on March 25, her 76th birthday.

It leaves a hole in the first Saturday of the Jazz Fest schedule, or would, but this afternoon, the Fest announced Sir Rod Stewart is confirmed to headline that day.

According to New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival officials, Franklin stepped down on the advice of her doctor, who said she is unable to perform.

Franklin told festival organizers that her doctors have advised her against performing. "She is extremely disappointed she can not perform at this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as she had expected and hoped to". She finally returned to New Orleans for the 2012 Essence Festival.

The singer announced plans to retire past year.
