The feature is now available to those who have registered in WhatsApp's beta programme for Android.

As mentioned above, the feature is now available for beta users.

The fingerprint unlock feature has been available on iOS for while now but Android users will need to wait as the feature is currently available just for the beta users. There's also a new "show content in notifications" option added allowing users to decide if they want to show or hide message and sender preview when the fingerprint lock is enabled. The latest addition to the Android app could be the fingerprint locking feature, which is now being tested in the beta channel. WhatsApp is also rolling this feature as a server-side update.

If you're already a beta tester for WhatsApp, you can activate the functionality by tapping on the hamburger menu (three dots on the top right corner) and then selecting Settings Account Privacy Fingerprint lock. Of course, you also need to have a fingerprint sensor on your phone to use this feature. Users can choose from these options according to their preference. Available on the version 2.19.221, the feature has been finally introduced after eight months of being spotted as a hidden feature on the beta version of the app. If everything goes well during tests, Fingerprint Lock might be deployed to all Android users in the next couple of weeks. The Fingerprint lock can be verified and enable the feature if they would like to use it.

That said, the new Fingerprint lock feature for Android WhatsApp users is undoubtedly deserving as it allows users to have more privacy of their important conversations on the Facebook-owned WhatsApp, meaning more control for users on the messaging platform.

To update WhatsApp beta to the latest version, head to the Play Store or download it from APK Mirror. With this feature, you only have to unlock it when you open the app, otherwise, you can attend the WhatsApp calls without unlocking the app.
