"Research from surrounding areas has shown that heat-related illnesses seem to peak just below advisory thresholds", Palmer said.

Unsafe heat is expected to return to the St. Louis region Monday as highs are forecast in the mid to upper 90°s.

Counties in the warning are: Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall and Morgan in Alabama, and Lincoln County in Tennessee.

The National Weather Service issued another heat advisory for all Southeast Texas until 7 p.m. Monday, saying temperatures will reach 100 degrees or higher by the afternoon with heat index values between 108 and 113 degrees. Highs will push their way into the upper 90s to near 100°, feeling closer to 110-115°. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled to the early morning or evening if possible, and people should take breaks if they are working outside. "That is, people tend to take advisories seriously and follow heat safety precautions, but if there's no advisory, people aren't as cautious".

Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
