Many regard Zlatan Ibrahimovic as one of Sweden's greatest ever talents, and in honour of the LA Galaxy star, a giant statue of the striker was unveiled in his hometown this week.

The statue, which was commissioned by the Swedish Football Association, stands at nearly three metres tall and depicts Ibrahimovic celebrating a goal without his shirt. Some players get to win trophies, others have trophies and a statue'.

His comment seems to reflect a sentiment he expressed in a 2016 Instagram post, which the Galaxy quoted in a tweet Tuesday: "When you come to NY, you have the Statue of Liberty".

"[It's] a symbol for those who do not feel welcome, do not fit in or feel that they do not look like everyone else. I'm not special in any way, even though I'm best at what I do".

Ibrahimovic scored 62 goals in 116 appearances for Sweden before retiring from global football in 2016.

Ibrahimovic started his career with Malmo before going on to play for Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris St-Germain and United.
