It will now occur on Friday at 3:30 a.m. PDT when UCSD alum Jessica Meir and fellow astronaut Christina Koch will leave the International Space Station to fix a power unit that failed last weekend, according to NASA.

USA astronauts Christina Koch (cook) and Jessica Meir (mere) will step out Friday to replace a broken battery charger.

NASA will be covering the spacewalk live, from 10.30 am UTC (4 pm IST) onwards.

On Friday, NASA's women astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir will venture outside the International Space Station at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 or Friday, Oct. 18.

In the clip above, the pair of astronauts were asked by a reporter what they thought about their possible participation in the first-ever all-female spacewalk, as well as how Koch feels about her accomplishments often being viewed through the lens of her gender.

The spacewalk, was scheduled for October 21, but was brought forward to Friday.

Space station managers have postponed three spacewalks earlier to replace a faulty battery charge/discharge unit (BCDU) though its failure has not impacted station operations, safety of the crew, or the ongoing experiments aboard the orbiting laboratory, many in preparation for future human missions to the Moon and Mars, said NASA in a statement.
