Models wear Virgin Galactic's new space-wear system, developed in partnership with Under Armour, during an event to unveil the suits to be worn by future Virgin Galactic space travelers, in Yonkers, New York, U.S., October 16, 2019.

Revealed this week at an indoor skydiving arena in NY, the custom-designed outfit features a base layer, spacesuit, footwear, training suit, and limited-edition jacket. Whitesides says that "I think it's going to be a few years" before ticket prices reduce to the expected $60,000 each, but before that happens prices will actually increase due to the company believing they accidentally undervalued initial pricing.

The Virgin Galactic mission is now on the final stages of testing its spacecraft as the company rushes to ensure safety before flights kick off sometime next year.

Today, the companies unveiled the collaboratively designed spacewear system for Virgin Galactic astronauts comprising of a base layer, spacesuit, footwear, training suit and Limited Edition astronaut jacket. It is the first such collection ever created specifically for private astronauts.

Every element of the Virgin Galactic customer journey is created to enrich the profound and transformative qualities of the human spaceflight experience.

The royal blue jumpsuits are made of lightweight "flight-grade" fabric created to keep customers comfortable as they hurtle more than 50 miles into the atmosphere at up to three times the speed of sound.

Earlier this year, Under Armour announced it had taken the role Exclusive Technical Spacewear Partner for Virgin Galactic, raising the curtain on a best-in-class partnership.

The UA | VG Base Layer acts as a second skin to the body, retrofitting Under Armour's UA RUSH technology will enhance performance and blood flow during the high and zero G portions of flight. From the hottest desert to the cold of space, UA Intelliknit provides temperature regulation and sweat management, making the impossible possible. Spaceflight is a unique and demanding regime and requires a different approach. "What we've engineered utilizing our key technologies will define the future of spacewear".

Beth Moses, chief astronaut instructor and interiors program manager for Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo operations, said a key difference between these suits and suits of the past is that these aren't necessarily designed for a task.

The liner of the spacesuit incorporates other new fabrics, like Tencel Luxe, SpinIt and Nomex, used for temperature control and moisture management, as Future Astronauts may experience a spectrum of temperatures throughout their journey.

The Virgin Galactic spacesuit jackets include the company's flight DNA symbols.

Transparent suit pockets will allow astronauts to carry personal effects, such as photographs of family, "who will literally be close to the heart", according to Virgin Galactic.
