A crowd stretching two city blocks is moving through the streets of Edmonton to support Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg's visit to the Alberta capital. "We can not allow this crisis to continue to be a partisan, political question, " Thunberg said in a speech before thousands of people on the steps of the provincial legislature.

"We in the province of Alberta are exhausted of celebrities coming into our province and trying to tell us how to run our oil and gas sector", the organisers said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, asking everyone concerned to "come out in unity to show Greta we do not need her yelling at us". The 16-year-old told thousands of people in front of the provincial legislature in Edmonton on that the future of the planet is at stake. It is a large source of emissions.

A group of oil and gas supporters in a convoy of trucks left Red Deer, the morning and is planning a counter-rally during the event. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in a tough reelection fight in Monday's national elections.
