Bag explodes while being loaded onto flight at Midway Airport in Chicago

Emergency crews have responded to a bomb ordeal at a Chicago airport after a bag exploded while being loaded onto a flight.

The luggage exploded Monday while it was being put onto an airplane at Midway International Airport, WBBM reported. Central time to investigate the explosion, the Chicago Tribune reported. No one was injured'.

Police were called to the airport and a Level 1 hazmat situation was ordered, however, it was cleared after they discovered the cause of the explosion.

The bag had been run over by a luggage vehicle and the item did not combust or explode on its own, he said.

Police spokesman Anthony Gugliemi said the bag was "affected by a possible cell phone battery or battery charger", according to a tweet.

Chicago police said there were no injuries, and there is no threat to the public.
